For the past five years, gmp have been working in an interdisciplinary team with schlaich, bergermann & partner (sbp), WSP Global and transsolar to develop a new roof for the 55,000-seat Olympic Stadium in Montréal. At the end of the selection process, the consortium of Groupe Construction Pomerleau-Canam was announced as the general contractor to complete the project by 2028. The design team is looking forward to implementing the ambitious concept together with the consortium’s design team ACDF, lemay and Walter P.Moore. This is also gmp’s first project in North America.

新建设计遵循原有支撑结构的原则,从高165米、倾斜45度的高塔悬吊而下。除了灵活整合活动技术和显著改善声学效果外,设计重点在于体育场看台的自然采光。悬吊的屋顶结构沿着雕塑般的混凝土肋条曲线延伸,并用玻璃将整个结构包裹起来。为了抵御加拿大严酷的冬季,屋顶上层表皮是不透明的,而下层则安装了半透明的膜结构,可实现多种间接照明或投影场景。
The planned construction follows the principle of the original support structure and is also suspended from the tower, which is 165 meters high and inclined at 45 degrees. In addition to flexible integration of event technology and significant acoustic improvements, the design focuses above all on the natural lighting of the stadium bowl. The suspended roof structure follows the curves of the sculpted concrete rib’s structure follows the historic building by glazing all the way around. To withstand the harsh Canadian winters, the upper skin is opaque, while the underside of the roof is fitted with semi-transparent membrane that allows for a variety of indirect lighting or projection scenarios.

由此,gmp在北美的首个项目为gmp全球体育场改建项目系列又增添了一座实绩。过去,gmp曾完成了柏林奥林匹克体育场(2004年)、巴西美景市米内罗体育场(2013年)和马德里圣地亚哥伯纳乌体育场(2024年)的改建。
gmp’s first project in North America is in line with other stadium conversions worldwide. In the past, gmp has worked on the conversions of the Berlin Olympic Stadium (2004), the Estádio Mineirão in Belo Horizonte in Brazil (2013), and the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid (2024).
