浙江省及杭州市发行量最大、影响力最大的都市类报纸，浙江省唯一省级晚报《钱江晚报》近日报道了MVRDV为杭州大城北核心示范区设计的总体规划。杭州大城北地区是京杭大运河的南端点，拥有丰富的历史文化资源和自然生态资源，是实现老工业振兴和推进大运河文化传承的中心区。MVRDV的规划深入挖掘和丰富大运河文化内涵，突出了大运河的历史脉络和当代价值。

Recently, MVRDV's masterplan for Hangzhou Northern Borough Core Demonstration Zone has been reported by Qianjiang Evening News, which is the most influential and only provincial evening newspaper in Zhejiang Province and has the largest circulation as well. The Northern Borough of Hangzhou City is the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and it is rich in historical resources, cultural resources and ecological resources. It is the central area for revitalizing the traditional industrial industry and promoting the cultural heritage of the Grand Canal. MVRDV’s design thoroughly excavates and enriches the cultural depth of the Grand Canal and highlights both the historical context and contemporary value.

Overview of the Hangzhou Northern Borough Core Demonstration Zone

The following is from a report published by Qianjiang Evening News on November 4: "Blueprint For The Northern Borough of Hangzhou City: Unique Cultural Park In Hangzhou."

大城北地区南至德胜路、北以绕城高速为界、西至西湖区行政边界，东至沪杭高铁，总面积1355平方公里，涉及5个区(余杭、拱墅、上城、下城、江干)。

There are five districts (Yuhang, Gongshu, Shangcheng, Xicheng, and Jiang’gan) in the Northern Borough of Hangzhou, covering a total area of 1355 square kilometers. Its southernmost part is adjacent to the Desheng Rd; the north is bounded to the freeway; west to the administrative boundary of Xihu district; and east to Shanghai-Hangzhou high-speed railway.

这么大的区域，划出了示范区，3.5平方公里，包括京杭运河沿岸和杭钢基地两大区块，将成为大城北有机更新的窗口和标杆。

The government has designated 3.5 square kilometers of demonstration zones in this area, including two blocks along the bank of Grand Canal and Hangzhou Steel Factory, which will become the window and benchmark for organic renewal in the Northern Borough of Hangzhou.

Taking the millennium canal history and centuries-old industrial history as the core, the culture will become the soul of this demonstration zone. The government decided to keep the industrial heritage, give up commercial space to the green area, cultural facilities and public space, and finally realize a “Cultural Park”.
