In this lecture, Material Matters, van Rijs reflects on the role of materials in shaping architecture beyond aesthetics. Materials influence atmosphere, tactility, detail, and urban identity, while also carrying environmental implications related to resources, energy, and carbon.
The talk explores how architectural practice can engage these material realities in an age dominated by digital imagery. Rather than focusing on speculative renderings, the lecture emphasizes built work and the tangible qualities of architecture as it is realized and experienced.
