Design with Heart: Call for Speakers on 'Kindness' at the 2025 Shanghai Landscape Forum

Save the date! The 12th Shanghai Landscape Forum returns to the Jing’an 800 Show on November 16, 2025.

This year, we explore the power of Kindness in design. The forum will be a deep dive into the vital role and lasting impact of landscapes in shaping urban environments. Join us as we examine what it means to create spaces with genuine care and respect at every turn.

In the built environment, kindness is more than just a nice idea - it's a deep, values-driven approach. It means actively shaping places that nurture people, communities, all species and ecosystems. This shift transforms the built environment into an active participant in living systems, directly supporting biodiversity and enhancing the health of our planet.

This year, the forum is open for public submissions. We invite you to join the discussion and present your work. This is an excellent opportunity to help shape the future of the built environment, share your practices and design thinking, and engage in meaningful dialogues alongside industry leaders. We especially look forward to diverse perspectives converging on the same stage to explore what kindness truly means, and the unique role landscape architect can play to amplify the power of places.

Submission requirements:

• Required Content: An abstract for a presentation (spanning around 15 minutes) related to the theme including an overview and main arguments (minimum 200 words).
• Submission Deadline: October 24, 2025
• Results Announcement: November 4, 2025

All submissions will be reviewed by a jury composed of senior landscape architects from AECOM, Sasaki, SWA, ASPECT Studios and Hassell.

The Shanghai Landscape Forum is organised by Sasaki, AECOM, SWA, ASPECT Studios, Hassell, and other leading international design firms. The forum, which spans a wide spectrum of landscape design and related fields, successfully brings designers together to exchange ideas on topics such as wellbeing, climate action and urban transformation.
