4月12日，gmp·冯·格康，玛格及合伙人建筑师事务所与上海市欧美同学会（SORSA）留德语国家分会在上海久事艺术沙龙 “UMBAU·改建，不间断转变”展览现场举办了一场以建筑改造与城市更新为主题的研讨会。研讨会的主办人及策划人之一、上海市欧美同学会留德分会会长、同济大学同济大学建筑与城市规划学院教授李振宇教授以德语中“改建”（UMBAU）一词的谐音为研讨会命名“‘屋木保’中德建筑更新研讨会”。保护是改建的首要前提，“屋木保”UMBAU一语双关，也蕴含了中德文化的交融共通。

On April 12, gmp von Gerkan, Marg and Partners Architects and the SORSA Shanghai Overseas Returned Scholars Association German Branch held a symposium themed on architectural renovation and urban renewal at the gmp exhibition "UMBAU. Nonstop Transformation" in Jiushi Art Salon in Shanghai. One of the hosts and planners of the seminar, Professor Li Zhenyu, director of SORSA German Branch, professor at the CAUP Tongji University, named the symposium "Wu-Mu-Bao" based on the homophony of the German word for "renovation" (UMBAU). Conservation is the primary prerequisite for renovation, and the name "Wu Mu Bao" UMBAU is a pun that also reflects the cultural integration between China and Germany.

研讨会聚集了50位来自建筑设计、城市规划、高等院校、生态科技、设计咨询、设计媒体等各个行业领域的专业人士，年龄跨度从60后到90后，共同的留德语国家背景创造了一个共有的文化平台，论坛几乎全部使用德语交流。研讨会上半场，几位演讲嘉宾分别分享了各自在建筑改造与城市更新领域的理念、思想与作品，演讲精彩纷呈，听众获益匪浅。

The symposium brought together about 50 professionals from various fields such as architectural design, urban planning, universities, ecological technology, design consulting, and design media etc. Their shared background in German-speaking countries created a common cultural platform, with almost all discussions conducted in German. In the first half of the seminar, several speakers shared their concepts, ideas, and works in the field of architectural renovation and urban renewal. Their presentations were highly engaging and informative, providing valuable insights for the audience.

gmp建筑师事务所合伙人兼执行总裁、上海市欧美同学会留德分会副会长吴蔚先生作为研讨会主持人首先发言，感谢了李振宇老师对活动的大力支持与各位到场嘉宾的积极参与，期待研讨会为大家带来思想的碰撞与收获，并邀请每一位参会者都作了自我介绍。

Mr. Wu Wei, Executive Partner of gmp Architects and vice director of the SORSA German Branch, kicked off the seminar as the host. He expressed his gratitude to Professor Li Zhenyu for his strong support of the event and to all the participants for their active involvement. He looked forward to the seminar sparking intellectual exchanges and yielding fruitful outcomes. Afterwards, he asked all the participants to introduce themselves.

李振宇教授在“gmp与同济大学建筑与城市规划学院合作”的报告中，以个人亲历回顾了从2002年以来在教学、科研、设计交流方面的历程。从2002年在柏林德累斯顿银行的gmp设计展览初次见到gmp创始合伙人曼哈德·冯·格康先生以及其他合伙人，到2014年、2018年在同济大学冯·格康先生担任顾问教授并作学术报告；从2008年起玛德琳·唯斯女士和尼古劳斯·格茨先生等多次在同济大学做学术讲座，到格茨先生担任“李德华罗小未教席教授”，指导建筑学研究生以汉堡建筑改造为题的课程设计，以及双方在科研、设计、论文、互访等多项专业合作。报告展示了20多年来亲手拍摄的数十幅照片，令人感动。李振宇教授还介绍了一个建筑更新的小项目：在奉贤区金水苑，3000住户的旧小区，采用多种色彩的彩度明度变化的方式，达到生动的低造价居住环境的优化提升。

In the report "gmp and Tongji CAUP Cooperation", Prof. Li Zhenyu recalled his personal experience since 2002 in terms of teaching, scientific research, and design exchanges. From the first time he saw Prof. Meinhard von Gerkang, Founding Partner of gmp and other partners at the gmp design exhibition in the Dresdner Bank in Berlin in 2002, to serving as a consultant professor and giving an academic lecyure at Tongji University in 2014 and 2018; from Ms. Magdalena Weiss and Mr. Nicolaus Goetze repeatedly giving academic lectures at Tongji University since 2008, to serving as the "Li Dehua Luo Xiaowei Chair Professor" and guiding architectural graduate students in designing a course on Hamburg building renovation, as well as the professional cooperation in research, design, papers, and mutual visits between gmp and Tongji. Prof. Li Zhenyu showed dozens of touching photos taken by him over the past 20 years. He also introduced a small project of building renovation in his lecture: Jinshui Garden, an old residential area with 3,000 residents in Fengxian District, the use of various colors and brightness changes to achieve the optimization and improvement of a lively and low-cost living environment.

同济大学建筑与城市规划学院教授、上海市政协委员蔡永洁的报告《再造陆家嘴》针对当代中国新城建设中普遍存在的空间密度过低、尺度过大、形态不明、功能单一问题，以上海陆家嘴CBD为虚拟研究对象，探寻当代新城再城市化改造的潜力与策略。通过空间加密实现尺度压缩、功能补充，从而将陆家嘴从一个单纯的工作城转型为具有日常生活的、尺度宜人与功能多样的复合性城区。

The lecture by Prof. Cai Yongjie, Professor at CAUP Tongji University, Member of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) - “Rebuilding Lujiazui”, directed against the general spatial problems such as low density, large scale, undefined form and single function of Chinese new urban development, taking Lujiazui from Shanghai as virtual research object, the potential and strategy for a re-urbanization process of contemporary Chinese new cities were explored. Based on space encryption the scale compression and functional supplement would be realized. Thus Lujiazui could be transformed from a working city to the composite city with daily life, friendly scale and multi-function.

戴卫·奇普菲尔德建筑事务所（David Chipperfield Architects）合伙人陈立缤的报告以一个项目实例——外滩·老市府阐述了事务所的改造更新理念。该项目基于对1922年由英国建筑师特纳设计建成的外滩地标工部局大楼的修缮与改造，以满足新的办公功能的需求，并将其室内重要的历史保护空间首次对公众开放。改造设计遵循历史设计意图围合了整个街区，并通过开敞的首层提升了场地和庭院的可达性。新建部分的立面是对历史建筑的当代演绎，庭院内的两座建筑形成了新与旧的并存——维多利亚风格的红砖别墅将被修复改造以容纳餐厅和其他公共功能，另一座用于活动和表演的新建筑取代了旧礼堂。

Mr. Chen Libin, Partner of David Chipperfield Architects, presented a new project “Bund City Hall Palza” to illustrate the conversion concept and philosophy of the office. This project is the result of the refurbishment and extension of the existing Shanghai Municipal Council (SMC) Building, which was designed by British architect T.C. and built in 1922. The SMC building is restored and adapted for office use and key historic interiors are opened to the public for the first time. The new office building will complete the urban block according to the original design, defining a courtyard space that is open to the public. A permeable and public ground floor activates the courtyard and improve accessibility across the site. The façade of the new building is a contemporary interpretation of that of the historic building. Within the courtyard, two buildings represent a coexistence of the old and the new: the Red Building, an existing Victorian red brick villa is restored and adapted to accommodate restaurants and other public functions, while a new building for events and performances replaces the former auditorium.

德默营造建筑事务所创始合伙人、总建筑师陈旭东的演讲《想象的重构》以德默营造建筑事务所和陈旭东的三个项目为例，探讨了在城市更新与建筑改造实践中的持续思考。“边界逸景”研究柏林墙遗址地块，通过类型学、语义学的分析方法，提出激活城市边界和回复城市活力的方案。其次，“记忆显影”将上海文学历史融入咖啡馆改造设计，通过记忆载体来重构个人与场所的关联。“空间叙事”讨论了位于郑州的工业遗址的改造，提炼城市记忆主题、保留工业遗产并赋予新的功能。演讲强调场所、类型与叙事的重要性，展现了对历史价值与生活经验相结合的创新思考。

The lecture “Toward Imaginary Reconstruction” given by Mr. Chen Xudong, Founding Partner and Chief Architect of DAtrans Architetcure Office, explores practical reflections on urban renewal and architectural transformation through three case studies by DAtrans and Xudong CHEN. “Grenzescape” examines the Berlin Wall ruins, employing typological and semantic analysis to propose solutions for reactivating urban boundaries and revitalizing the city. "Memory Processor" integrates Shanghai’s literary history into the redesign of a café, using memory as a medium to reconstruct the connection between individuals and place. "Spatial Narrative" discusses the transformation of an industrial heritage site in Zhengzhou, distilling themes of urban memory while preserving industrial relics and repurposing them with new functions. The lecture emphasizes the significance of place, typology and narrative, demonstrating innovative thinking that bridges historical value and living experience.

亘建筑事务所合伙人和主持建筑师范蓓蕾以“给日常留白”为主题，分享了在丁蜀成校和山峰理诺士校园北区规划两个学校设计中的思考。在这两个项目中，亘建筑不只满足任务书的功能需求，而是深入探索人们生活和学习的本质，通过空间设计为未来保留更多可能性。亘建筑认为，建筑师设计建筑就像作家创作小说，不是去规定或重复人们的生活，而是要发现生活的可能性，留出空间，让人们的活动自然发生，让文化自由生长。
Ms. Fan Beilei, partner at genarchitects, spoke on the theme of "Leaving Space for the Everyday life,” sharing insights from the design processes of two schools: Dingshu vocatial School and Shanfeng RIS Campus. In these projects, genarchitects went beyond the functional requirements of the brief, seeking to capture the essence of how people live and learn, and using spatial design to create more possibilities for the future. genarchitects believes that designing buildings is akin to writing a novel: architects should not dictate or replicate people's lives but instead uncover potential, leaving room for natural activities to unfold and for culture to grow organically.

ppas德国珮帕施建筑规划设计事务所合伙人、中国区负责人张宁主要介绍了南京东路外滩更新设计，项目地处上海最具魅力的历史中心区，拥有以和平饭店为代表的卓越历史建筑群，当今面临着拥挤、公共空间不足与历史建筑缺乏维护的挑战。ppas继承外滩文化基因，有机更新现状建筑，更重要的是以上海的“玉玲珑“为灵感，重组与联系各个街坊内院，创造出“可达、可留、可体验、相互联通”的“多孔”区域空间结构。最终，为外滩的发展构建一个富有体验性与适应性的未来架构。

Dr. Zhang Ning, Partner and China Director of ppas Pesch Partner Architektur Stadtplanung GmbH presented the project “Renewal of Nanjing East Road Bund area”, Shanghai’s most glamorous historical center, boasts outstanding historic architectural ensembles exemplified by the Peace Hotel. The contemporary era faces challenges such as overcrowding, insufficient public space, and lack of maintenance of heritage buildings. By inheriting the cultural genes of the Bund, PPAS aims to organically renew existing buildings. By leveraging the concept of Shanghai "Exquisite Jade Rock”, we reorganize and interconnect the inner courtyards of neighborhoods to create a "porous" spatial structure that is accessible, stayable, experienceable, and interconnected. Ultimately, this will establish an experiential and adaptable future framework for the Bund’s development.

gmp建筑师事务所合伙人兼执行总裁玛德琳·唯斯与合伙人施特凡·瑞沃勒则别出心裁地为听众们呈现了一场精彩的合作演讲《集合记忆》，用五个不同类型、不同功能、不同策略的项目分别阐述了gmp在建筑改造与更新方面基于50年实践经验的设计思想与方法。其中包括：坐落在天安门广场上并将中国传统建筑元素进行当代转译的中国国家博物馆，由衡山路复兴路历史文化风貌区救火会旧址改造而成的时尚店面之禾卡纷花园，将既有高层钢筋混凝土结构进行充分利用并改造为以艺术文化空间闻名的CHAO酒店，为一座废弃购物中心引入自然光并向城市打开改造为办公空间的京印国际中心，以及由宝武不锈钢厂改建的长860米的上海大学上海美术学院，每一个项目都用不同的手法延续了既有建筑的记忆。gmp主张从全面评估分析入手，针对现有建筑制定方案，以确保其现代使用功能。重新激活现有建筑的多样性始终是这一过程的核心。

Ms. Magdalena Weiss, Executive Partner of gmp, and Mr. Stephan Rewolle, partner of gmp, presented a wonderful collaborative speech "Collective Memories", which used five projects with different types, different functions and different strategies to elaborate the design concepts and methods of gmp's 50 years practice in architectural renovation and renewal: The National Museum of China, which is located in Tian'anmen Square and translated traditional Chinese architectural elements into contemporary language; ICCF Garden, a fashion store transformed from a historical building complex in the "Hengfu Historical Style Protection Zone"; CHAO Hotel, which has made full use of the existing high-rise concrete structure and transformed it into a new hotel with attractive art and cultural spaces; The JingIN International Center, which brings natural light to an abandoned shopping mall and opens up office space to the city; and the 860-meter-long Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts of Shanghai University, which was converted from Baowu stainless Steel factory. Each project continues the memory of the existing buildings in a different way. From a comprehensive exploration, concepts are developed that build on existing structures and ensure contemporary use. At the heart of this process is always the reactivation of the existing, in all its diversity.

此次中德建筑更新研讨会为各位留德语国家行业专家提供了一个相识和交流的机会，大家齐聚一堂，在分享和相互学习之余也为当代中国城市更新实践提出了不少具有建设性与创新性的意见与建议，共同期待中国城市建设即将开启的新篇章。

This Sino-German Urban Architecture Renewal Symposium provided an opportunity for all the experts from German-speaking countries to get acquainted and exchange ideas. Gathering together, they not only shared and learned from each other but also put forward many constructive and innovative suggestions for the current urban renewal practice in China. They all look forward to the new chapter of Chinese urban development.
