Lujiazui Chuansha Office Complex Completed

The Chuansha Office Complex in Shanghai, developed by Shanghai Lujiazui (Group) Co., Ltd. and designed by HPP, is now in operation. Conceived as an integrated urban landmark, the project combines Grade A offices, boutique headquarters spaces, and supporting retail.

Planning and Design Concept

Responding to the site’s elongated geometry, the complex is organized into two north–south clusters, each enclosing an internal courtyard that accommodates office drop-off and transition functions. Two towers, rising to 60 m and 45 m respectively, define the southern edge and establish a clear spatial hierarchy.

The architectural concept is inspired by the image of bamboo breaking through the ground. Staggered and interlocking volumes rise vertically, creating a rhythmic skyline that reflects Chuansha’s ongoing urban growth.

Retail activate the Chuansha Road frontage to the west, while a central public corridor, 14–22 m wide, connects the site from east to west. A second-floor bridge links to the Phase I retail development and extension towards adjacent residential areas.

Façade System from Urban to Courtyard

The façades employ a consistent vertical language while responding to different spatial conditions across the site. The street-facing façades are inspired by the image of a “Shooting Star,” composed of vertical fins with graduated widths that generate a dynamic urban expression. Integrated linear lighting defines the building at night while minimising light intrusion into office interiors.

Towards the inner courtyards, slimmer 100 mm-wide vertical elements increase transparency, visually extending the landscaped spaces into the offices and creating a calmer, more nature-oriented working environment.

At ground level and within the main lobby, the podium and tower are articulated with restrained vertical divisions, reinforcing lightness and openness. Retail and ancillary buildings introduce subtle volumetric variation to activate the street frontage, while white aluminium panels emphasise verticality and maintain visual continuity with the main building.

Public Space

Stepped setbacks generate a sequence of terraces that offer outdoor amenity spaces for office users. Terrace balustrades combine glass railings with extended curtain wall elements to balance safety and openness.

The second-floor bridge extends from the terrace level to connect with the Phase I retail area, serving as a key element for pedestrian circulation across the site. Its folded geometry echoes the tower forms, while widened sections accommodate outdoor dining or small events.

As a key development for Lujiazui Group in Chuansha, the project strengthens the architectural character and public presence of the area. Together with Phase I, it reinforces the urban image along Chuansha Road and supports the continued development of the Chuansha urban sub-centre.
